Activity Groups

At Noosa Arts and Crafts Association, we have a myriad of arts and crafts activity groups regularly meeting in our home base of Wallace House in Noosa. We welcome experienced artists and craftspeople, as well as those with little or no creative experience. There is a wealth of knowledge to be shared amongst our members! So, if you are looking for a new creative experience and to meet some friendly, like-minded people, join one of our activity groups. When you become a member of the association, you have access to all these activities! Suitable for local residents or those visiting the area for an extended period.

Group Description
ARTS  
Life Art
Our Life Art group is one of our longest running art activity groups. Each artist works with the medium of their choice to draw beautiful life art from a live model each week. Spaces are limited.

Meets on: First and third Wednesdays each month, 9.00 am to 12 noon

Watercolour Painting
This group meets weekly to paint common themes with their watercolours. A tutor is sometimes engaged, and other times the group is self run, with regular sharing of techniques and information resources.

Meets on: Mondays, 1 pm to 4 pm

Botanical Art
Our Botanical Artists have been gathering for over a decade to share their wealth of knowledge and love of this detailed art form. Common themes of selected flora and fauna are agreed as they draw and paint alongside each other each week.

Porcelain Art
Our vastly experienced tutor, Narelle, is on hand each week to guide this group through the traditional art form of painting porcelain pieces.

Advanced Watercolour Painting
This group of experienced watercolour painters has been meeting each week for over ten years. Occasionally they have a regular tutor, and other times they meet to simply paint together, share knowledge and enjoy each other’s company

Creative Artists
This is the place to be if you want to do your own creative thing, whilst enjoying some good company. All manner of art mediums and techniques are used, with a focus on 2D art: drawing, painting, mixed media, pastels, collage … whatever takes your fancy!

Oil & Acrylic Painting
This is a relaxed and friendly painting group that has been running since the inception of our association. Experience within the group ranges from beginners to advanced, with each member setting their own projects. It is a place to come together and create, share knowledge and a love of painting. It is usually self directed, although a tutor is engaged at times, and beginners are assisted by the more experienced in the group.

Ceramics
Our ceramics studio is open six days a week and is equipped with everything you need to hand build, wheel throw, glaze and fire your clay creations. Thursdays and Fridays are our days for newcomers to join in, where experienced makers will show you the ropes of the studio. Look out for workshops to learn new ceramics skills, then put them into practise in this well loved community studio.

Mixed Media – No Rules
You will experience many different art mediums and techniques in this group – textiles, paper, paint, beads, felting, collaging, gluing, stitching, both 2D and 3D creations …. there are no rules! You will only be limited by your imagination. A great group to join to learn new techniques and make a truly creative expression of your own.

Acrylic Painting
A relaxed and friendly painting group, perfect for beginners and intermediate painters. Learn the basics of painting, both from other members of the group and our fortnightly tutor, Pam Taylor, who always has new projects and interesting painting techniques to share.

Print making
At Wallace House, we have a well equipped print room, providing our members with excellent facilities to create their beautiful prints. Join in to learn more about printing something beautiful with regular workshops held for members of this “print gang” group.

CRAFTS  
Mosaics
Our mosaics group is small and friendly, with a wealth of mosaics experience to share. Whether you have many years of experience with mosaics, or have never tried and would like to start a new creative endeavour, mosaics is a great group to join. You do not require many materials and information is freely shared.

Smocking
Our smocking group has been meeting for over 20 years to share their love of needlework, smocking, embroidery and sewing together. Many of their beautifully hand crafted pieces are destined for our gift shop, providing special gifts for loved ones.

Quilting
Our quilting group is one of our largest activity groups and has been operating for over 25 years. They have a love of sewing, beautiful fabrics and sharing of quilting skills. Experienced quilters and sewers are welcome but experience is not necessary to join. The friendly members will willingly show you how to hand sew or machine sew a quilted product. Most quilting members join us on Tuesday mornings, and there is a smaller group who meet on Thursday evenings.

Charity Quilts
This group is made up of some of our Quilting members, who enjoy creating quilts for charity purposes as a group. A lovely way to meet others and support worthy causes at the same time.

Crochet
This group shares a love of crocheting and knitting. Janelle is always on hand to tutor those who need assistance and want to learn new skills. Come and join this group if you’d like to make new friends and create all things knitted or crocheted.

Book & Paper making
This group are experts in the construction of items made from paper, such as books, boxes and albums. Most of the focus is on hand made books, with the occasional paper making workshop throughout the year. Filled with happy and helpful members, join to learn how to create your own books, boxes and more.

Scrapbooking
Our scrapbooking group shares a love of decorative art, making beautiful cards, photo albums and scrapbooks. A lovely, friendly group to join, they bring their own papers and materials to their weekly get together, where they create and share new resources with each other.

Spinners, Knitters & Weavers
This is a long standing group, who practise the gentle, traditional crafts of spinning, knitting and weaving yarn from fleece together each week. Experienced artisans are on hand to share their extensive knowledge with new beginners in a quiet, relaxed environment.

Beading
Our beading group has been meeting for well over a decade, and new members are happily shown how to make some beautiful beaded items, such as necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Join in to share your love of creating precious items to wear or share!

Embroidery
Learn the gentle, traditional craft of embroidery from our the experienced hands of our members, many of whom have been creating embroidered pieces for decades. There is a wealth of knowledge to be shared, as you create beautifully decorated fabrics for use in clothing, homewares and art pieces.

Boomerang Bags
Boomerang Bags have recently taken up residence in Wallace House on Monday and Wednesday mornings. This group sews fabric bags from excess, colourful fabrics, with the intention of reducing plastic bag waste in the community. They are always looking for people to help with this great project, so whether you are an experienced machine sewer, or just have a willing pair of hands, this friendly group will be grateful for your assistance. They will show you how you can help!

Noosa Writers
Our Noosa Writing group meets every fortnight to share, create and critique their short stories. They have successfully published an anthology and provide constructive advice to each other on the content and format of writing works in progress.

Meets: Fortnightly on Monday, 9.30 am to 12.30 pm

Novelists
This writers’ group workshops their novels in progress with one another, giving and receiving feedback on content. Numbers are limited due to the time taken to review the work of each author, so a waiting list is underway for new groups.
