Autumn is here and we have our first exhibition for 2019 which opens on May 3 at 6.pm. It’s a bumper exhibition with many groups being represented. Our guest speaker is Simone Gillam who is a member, artist, regular gift shop attendee and our wonderful, Wednesday Yoga teacher – we are so delighted she accepted our invitation. There will be drinks and refreshments provided during the evening opening.
Our Association is home to around 30 active art and craft groups which means it would be difficult to hold separate exhibitions for each one and for smaller groups to hold their own. This multi-group collaboration has been very successful over the last few years – bringing groups together and valuing each other’s work.
The first weekend of each Exhibition, our popular Pop-Up cafe serves tea, coffee and delicious cakes and slices – all made by life member Judy Chipperfield and her team of helpers. A treat not to be missed!
This Autumn exhibition will feature many exhibits highlighting members’ skills – our embroiderers in particular spend many hours on their delicate work as do our mosaic artists, and book and papermakers – too precious to put up for sale.
On the other hand, this is the time of year that our knitters, spinners and weavers enjoy the most – they work for 12 months to show and sell their unique wearable art. As the temperature drops, their scarves, shawls, hats, and gloves rise in popularity with our many visitors. This group specialises in homespun yarns and natural fibres – there will also be hanks of homespun yarn to create your own pieces.
Crochet is a prolific group and their throws and other handcrafted items are very popular. We have two watercolour groups exhibiting so the gallery walls will be bright with their paintings – everything from landscapes to flora and fauna.
Our beading group will have a wide range of jewellery both for sale and for display. This group experiments with a wide variety of beads from resin to Swarovski crystals – many of the necklaces have matching earrings.
Scrapbooking group meets every Thursday afternoon and they share their skills mainly focussing on creating pages for scrapbooks for friends and family. However, many of the group members are also skilled in card-making. Each card is handcrafted and rarely are there two alike – ideal for sending exclusive greetings to friends and family.
Our gift shop will be open throughout the exhibition and our Boomerang Bags are always available.
Opening times – 9.30am to 3.30pm – May 4 – May 10.
