Our hard-working President Gabi Dick has succeeded in securing our long-awaited place as an art venue on the local art trail in IN NOOSA Magazine.
We have long been an important art and craft centre in the area but this recognition as part of the local art scene is a real achievement. Every year we have sought to improve our facility and make our presence felt within the Noosa and district communities. We have been lucky to attract excellent tutors for our workshops and guest speakers for our events. Now we are hoping for more visitors from not only the local area but also the wider community.
All our rooms have native flower names – Boronia, Hovea, Banksia and Pandanus. Each room has a number of activity groups who call them home each week to meet and greet their fellow members when they share skills and chatter for a few hours. Every room has artwork adorning its walls and Boronia, as it is the base for our Quilt groups, often has stunning quilts hanging. Banksia is the domain of our Press gang/Printmakers where they display their latest works.
Our foyer area is a snapshot of what goes on in the House – the display cabinets are forever changing to show the delicate works of the embroiderers or delicate porcelain from the ceramicists. It is also where our Artist of the Month is on show. This month it has been the domain of our member artist and tutor Pam Taylor – her Moroccan series is well worth seeing.
Also on the ground floor, is Pandanus where two mornings a week Boomerang bags create their magnificent bags from sheets, scraps of material and sample books. Those members work non-stop to supply local businesses, charities and the general public with sturdy, reusable shopping bags, peg bags and much more.
We have a busy ceramic studio on the ground floor too which caters for over 60 members and is open 6 days a week. Their work is on display in their own small gallery and often featured in the Foyer.
Our large studio gallery is named Wattle and is a light and airy creative space on the upper floor. It is used very day by our groups – Watercolour, Chinese Brush painting, Oils & Acrylics, Acrylics, Creative artists, Pastels and also regular guest tutor workshops – including our very popular Art After Dark series.
Wattle studio gallery has a monthly makeover – different art groups take over the wall space to show their work to not only our many visitors but also all our members. We have a professional hanging system and lighting to display the work to its best advantage. It is also the main area for our bi-annual Exhibitions where you will find many groups’ work on display for the exhibition period.
We are justifiably proud of our heritage Queenslander home and we extend a warm welcome to all our visitors. All our arts and crafts displayed are for sale and our gift shop offers unique gifts and cards for all the family for every occasion.
